SUCCESS STORIES

The 2017 Carp-a-Cabana proceeds of $35,000 were awarded as Site Grants to all Carpinteria and Summerland Public Schools. Ron Briggs (Principal) and Kelly Vergeer (Science Teacher) of Carpinteria Middle School applied for a Site Grant to purchase Little Bits code kits, which introduce Robotics through CMS science classes. Students receive an introduction to foundational programs such as code.org and Scratch (an MIT computer program for students). These foundational programs then become extensions of self-guided learning opportunities. As science and technology are interwoven, the kits enable students to invent, engineer, work cooperatively, incorporate art and creativity, and are linked to Common Core standards.

J.T.

I am fortunate to have the help of CEF and this scholarship as I enter college.  Currently I am working three jobs just to pay for my college education.

This scholarship will help pay to further my education and double major in Accounting and Spanish.  This scholarship is important because I am a first generation student and come from a low-income family.
