SUCCESS STORIES

The 2015 Carp-a-Cabana proceeds $42,000 were awarded as Site Grants to all Carpinteria and Summerland Public Schools. John Merrit, Principal of the Carpinteria Middle School, applied for a Site Grant to purchase a mobile computer lab. Historically, teachers vied for student computer time in one of our three computer labs. In the last few years, the demand for computer time has increased greatly. More teachers would like to incorporate technology into their regular classroom and the minimal labs (and distance) presented a challenge. As a result, the site allowed Mr. Merritt to place more computers in classrooms for meaningful use of technology. Since they are in a cart, the computers can be moved to the classes that need them.

“Educational apps are being developed every day and we are finding ways of improving learning and student achievement. We do envision a time in the near future when computers will be in all classrooms and thanks to Carpinteria Education Foundation, we are a little closer to that goal.”

Mr. John Merritt, Principal of Carpinteria Middle School.
